Best British car of all time REVEALED- Do you agree with the winner?

Britain has produced its fair share of iconic cars over the years but also some ones we’d rather forget.

A team most influential car bosses have teamed up with Auto Express, to name the Best of British car manufacturing.

Up for contention was everything from the first ever Range Rover to classic Vauxhalls.

Some of the most iconic vehicles from pop culture, cinema and television made the list too with the Aston Martin DB5, made famous in the James Bond franchise and the Mini from Mr Bean.

Following a rigorous voting process, the original Mini was named as the best British-built car of all time, seeing off competition from the Jaguar E-Type and Land Rover Defender.

The original Mini was one of Britain’s favourite cars for the 41 years it was in production.

Production of the lightweight car ceased in 2000 after 5.3 million sales.

This iconic vehicle is making a comeback of sorts this year with the David Brown Automotive limited edition Mini Remastered which was unveiled last week.

Judges decided that the Mini was the best of British out of a shortlist of 75 of the finest British cars to ever be produced

his shortlist was then whittled down to a top 10 based on sales, groundbreaking design or unbeatable performance.

Votes were received from industry big-hitters including Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer and BMW’s sales and brand board member Ian Robertson.

The results highlighted the sheer diversity on offer from Brit-built models with the top 10 including economy runabouts, all-terrain tackling off-roaders, two-seater sports cars, record-breaking exotica and even a humble family saloon.

Auto Express Editor-in-chief Steve Fowler said: “This survey is a reminder of how many iconic cars Britain has produced over the years.

“So many of our Top 50 cars redefined segments and pushed the boundaries of what was possible.

“The spirit of innovation which created models as diverse as the Mini, E-Type and Defender continues today and the British automotive industry should be proud of its achievements and confident of the future.”
